Integrating Adaptive Technology Planning into Transition Sservices for Disabled Adolescents

by Marla Cook

This paper examined the potential to integrate adaptive technology into transition services for disabled adolescents. Theoretical perspectives on transition programs and adaptive technology were discussed with an emphasis on Brofenbrenner’s Ecology model.

The literature on transition services and adaptive technology was reviewed, with particular focus how they might be integrated. The research discussed in the paper as well as a synthesis of the findings contributed to a framework for professional practice. A strategy for intervention was presented including the role of Community Rehabilitation professionals in facilitating transition services. The limitations of both the research discussed and this paper were followed by recommendations for future knowledge building.
