The Use of Play Therapy for Children with Learning Disabilities

by Denise Carroll

This paper develops an intervention plan using play therapy for children with learning disabilities.

This plan aims to help children with learning disabilities; (a) increase academic self-concept and global self-concept, (b) deal with any emotional problems they are having that may be affecting their ability to learn. (c) increase coping skills, (d) decrease negative classroom behaviors, and (e) increase school success.

A review of play therapy literature and learning disability literature is provided. An intervention plan is created based on the findings from the literature and a method of evaluation is described to assess the effectiveness of the proposed intervention plan.
